Aunties and Uncles

Aunties and Uncles is a program designed to match Black children and youth in foster  care with adult “aunties and uncles” from their communities to meet their racial, cultural and religious needs.

Like other mentor/role model programs, Aunties and Uncles volunteer to participate in activities that both the adult and child/youth find mutually beneficial. Activities might include community events, movies, sports, music, tutoring and homework, arts, crafts, doing hair, or cooking.

Who can be an Auntie or Uncle?

- Must identify as a member of the Black/African Canadian Community.
- Must be over the age of 21.
- Able to volunteer a minimum of one hour per week.
- Minimum one year commitment.
- Must complete a screening through the Children's Aid Society including a police check.
